A leaky basement is a very bad sign. You know your basement is in trouble when you can actually see standing water. However there are several other signs that you may not see.
How water enters a home
| Wall Seepage Surface Water can enter a foundation through wall cracks. It can also run down the inside of the wall and leak at the cove. | Footing Seepage Water Table Water can enter a foundation by pushing across the footing and rising up into the wall. It can also leak at the cove. | Floor Seepage Hydrostatic Pressure Water can enter a foundation by pushing up through floor cracks or through the seam between the wall and floor (cove). | Air/Moisture Health Hazard Mold only needs 20% moisture to grow. You can only see 10% of the mold growing. |

This diagram shows you the four ways in which water can enter your home.
